"3 nine" or .999 pure is 99.9% pure. this is regular silver bullion bars and rounds and marked ".999 fine". "4 nine" is 99.99%. this is the purity of canadian maple leafs and marked ".9999 fine". "5 nines" is 99.999% pure. that is the stuff that is more expensive than gold.
