making black walnut tincture

It doesn't take long once you have the Black-Walnut hulls (only 3 nights). We live outside Chicago and the "green" Black-Walnut hulls seem pretty ready to pick. We waited for them to fall the 1st year, but that made a browner, less potent tincture. We now pick them from the tree while they're perfectly green and get a perfect, emerald green tincture (it's said the greener the tincture the stronger and better it is)
It's so easy:
Gather the Green Black-Walnut hulls (appx 15 per liter of 100 proof Vodka or Everclear)
We then wash and lightly scrub the hulls
Place the hulls in an enamel or glass dish and fill with Vodka to cover the hulls completely
Leave sit for 3 days undisturbed in the dark
Pour off the Vodka/Tincture
We put ours in small 2 oz brown glss containers with Plastic lids and store in the dark undisturbed
Add a small pinch of Vit C powder to top of each bottle
This does a good job of keeping it green and potent!

I hope you can find Black Walnut trees in your area, this saves a lot of money! Although you'll end up making more for friends and family, it's fun!
This may sound strange, but my husband (who's healthier, and has better eyesight than me) says he is naturally "pulled" by the presence of a black walnut tree in the area now. It's amazing how many we see while driving!
Let me know if you have any more questions or if I left out something!
