Re: Cortef, thumbs up or thumbs down?

Hi: I just started using Cortef last Wednesday and I feel so much better and grateful to my doctor for being willing to prescribe it. I've spent a year feeling tired, ill, and, some days, ready to give up on life. I'm on thyroid medication as well as a host of hormones including DHEA testosterone, estrogen and progesterone to deal with the effects of menopause. But in spite all of this I still wasn't feeling right. I tried Isocort and another adrenal support formula, neither of which did a thing for me. My cortisol was apparently very low in the morning but almost normal throughout the rest of the day. I eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, don't smoke drink or use drugs, so there was no reason for me to feel this way. My doctor was willing to try Cortef as a very last resort. I'm on 10 MG a day. I take 5 MG when I get up and another five a couple of hours later shortly after breakfast. So far, the only side effect I've experienced is some bloating. Contrary to what I was expecting, I believe I've even lost a bit of weight. I've certainly got more energy to exercise than I did before I started taking it. For me this is early days and the real test will be how things are a month or more from now. But right now, the benefits I've gained from taking Cortef far outweigh the side effects. For the first time in ages, I feel happy and grateful to be alive and healthy. I can concentrate, enjoy exercising like I once did, and actually get things done without having to take a nap.
