First attempt failed. What went wrong? Need advice please!

I set up my generator and had the aquarium bubbler going in the water.
The bubbling DID seem a bit TOO harsh. I probably should have capped it off and slowed it down.

I was using spring water too. Hubby picked that up, instead of distilled.

The outcome? My water turned cloudy then went dark grey. One of my coins had black sediment on it and some of the black was floating in the water.

Did this happen because I used spring water and too much bubbling?
