help with blood clots please

My sister - 25 years old and full of life and vibrance - is having trouble with blood clots. She first experienced them on her left side (up the side of her ribs and into her breast) about one year ago. They look something like a road map made of small ropes just under her skin. You can actually feel them. And they hurt her like pulled muscles. She has been to the doctor several times and has been off of the birth control pill since last January. A few weeks ago she thought she pulled muscles on the right side of her abdomen and it now looks like she has blood clots on her right side!

She is very active and leads a more healthy lifestyle than the average person. Another problem she has is chronic puffiness and swelling of hands and feet. I am not sure if they may be related. The doctors decided that her condition is due to her Nordic (scandanavian) ethnicity. Sounds to me like they dont have a clue ( I have the same ethnicity and dont have those symptoms!)

Does anyone have any experience with this or any leads? Or can I put this in a more appropriate forum?
