Re: critterskids - BARF and ear wax help please
Hi Maya,
I am not the expert for sure, but I am feeding our two shelties raw meaty bones and they are thriving.
I do feed them on a schedule twice a day. I feed mostly chicken, turkey, some fish, eggs, heart and organ meats. I feed them according to their weight. My male is bigger and he is pretty lean so he gets more. My little female is a chubster so she gets less food. I generally feed one piece of meat per meal, except to my male and he gets three pieces a day when he acts ravenous.
I don't think I would worry if your pup doesn't want to eat some times. It might be due to the heat. I know on hot days, our dogs' appetites are down. Is there a possibility of just being finicky?
I feed no cooked meat, although I know they would eat the heck out of it if offered. I feed only raw veggies and fruits and very little of that. I feed no grains at all. I have turned the garden over to them and they graze like little cows and eat what they want. Plus I give them other veggie and fruit tidbits.
As far as the ear wax question, it possibly might be anatomy or breed related. Our dogs have perfectly clean ears. The homeopathic remedy "Sepia" is supposed to be good for excess ear wax. Plus you could try to massage an acupressure point called the LI11 (Large Intestine 11) which is the outer point of the front leg elbow. There is a
Depression right next to the end of the elbow. Massage this point a few times a day and see if that helps at all. It will stimulate the immune system, help allergies and is supposed to help with waxy ears. Worth a try and is free.
Just some thoughts for now. I hope he gets better soon.
