Re: Hmmm...

I did not say that the dog does not know what he is doing. I said that I think the dog cannot help it and has no control over his action. Of course the dog knows it has urinated when it does so.

You said in your previous post :
"Hopefully you catch him in the act so that 'discipline' will work." (you are referring to the dog as "him")
Now you say :
"I meant the discipline you instill in yourself of how you would choose to raise any sentient creature."
I think you are twisting what you said.

Here is what the dictionary defines discipline as :

Training expected to produce a specific character or pattern of behavior, especially training that produces moral or mental improvement.
Controlled behavior resulting from disciplinary training; self-control.

Control obtained by enforcing compliance or order.
A systematic method to obtain obedience: a military discipline.
A state of order based on submission to rules and authority: a teacher who demanded discipline in the classroom.
Punishment intended to correct or train.
A set of rules or methods, as those regulating the practice of a church or monastic order.
A branch of knowledge or teaching.

I do not see how you maintain that the word discipline means positive reinforcement at all. I still think you mean it as some kind of punishment for this poor dog.

Maybe you want to clarify what you are trying to convey since I do not understand it.

TIA
