Reading your questions I think you already have the right answers. Choosing a dog from rescue center is a good decision, for the nutrition I would suggest a BARF food (raw diet). Fasting once a week would surely do more good then bad. As for the behavior issues I am sure you will take care for the baby in a right way,teaching yourself pretty quickly just observing the pupy behavior. I think you will be exellent mama.
