The vets do the lab work right there while you wait. It's not too hard... suspend stool in solution, place under microscope, look for eggs. You just need the equipment/supplies and training is all. My Dr. does NOT do the lab work in her office - she sends the samples off to a lab on the other side of town. Also, it's $10 vs. $80. And I will spare you my other horror story about the incompetant people-lab that ran the wrong tests on my stool then demanded to be paid. (another $80 evaporated.) My vet will check a stool sample any time of year, but they say it has to be for an animal that is already a client. However they bent the rules for me with the "new dog" and reminded me to bring her in soon for her puppy shots (yeah...)
All in all, just deworming yourself to start with has got to be the most economical route.
I may send off a sample to one of the recommended labs (front page of CureZone) if the little white balls don't completely disappear. I saw three yesterday. I guess I'd better order some coenzyme Q10. Anybody had good results with that?
