4 1/2 with excema and no allergies detected
My 4 1/2 year old daughter has been battling excema for around 2 years. She has outbreaks on/under her knees, wrists, elbows, around her neck, her back, the tops of her feet and sometimes on her fingers.
For full disclosure and to receive the most appropriate advice, I will give you her medical history. She had a urinary tract disorder at the age of 2 and it was discovered that she had kidney reflux. In order to prevent further damage, she was placed on a strong
Antibiotic for a full year. Obviously it was not optimal to suppress her immune system during this very important growth phase, but after the one year, her kidney reflux disappeared.
While I cannot pinpoint the beginning of her excema, it seemed to increase in strength and cause her more discomfert shortly thereafter...at the age of 3.5 years. For the past year, we have seen physicians who prescribed steroid creams like Locoid and creams-Elidil and antihistimines-Zyrtec. We have taken her to get tested for any allergies, and nothing presented itself, which has led to even more distress and confusion as to what brings on the outbreaks. On the advice of a holistic pediatrician, we have attempted to improve her immunity and overall health through probiotics - Udo's Choice Children's Probiotic, green vegetable supplements-Nature's Plus Animal Parade Kid Greenz and Omega supplements-Nordic Naturals Children's DHA. The only one she really tolerates is the Probiotic, because I can mix it with her Orange juic in the morning. She does not like taking any of the other products we have used and admittedly, we did not push her as hard as we should have.
I understand it is best to solve the problem from the inside out, and that the "remedies" given to us by the doctors are really masking the problem and potentiall leading to more acute problems in the future.
I would appreciate some help and direction on improving diet with specific probiotics, supplements, vitamins which are appropriate for 4-5 year olds as well as some appropriate creams and bathing suggestions. I hate to see me daughter suffer from this invisible invader and am asking for any and all suggestions.
