Re: sources confirming safety of MC??

Fasting is generally safe for the majority of people. The problems can begin when fasting is done too long or done without preparing a very toxic body for the rigors of detoxification. The Master Cleanse is much more gentle than a water only fast where toxins are very rapidly released. People who are on long term medication, or hypoglycemic or diabetic, have cardiac issues, or are very underweight or have a history of eating disorders will be more prone to encounter problems while fasting and should not attempt any fast without consulting their health care professional. However, supervised fasting can help provide improvements in many of these chronic conditions.

Probably the worst problems most relatively healthy people will face on the Master-Cleanse are colon and bowel problems. Some people cannot tolerate the saltwater flush and risk dehydration, lost of electrolytes, and blood pressure spikes. Less dangerous side effects include bloating from salt retention and rectal leakage.

Care must also be exercised with the laxative teas. They can lead to dependence in as little as a week for some people. The herbs used in the teas can also stain the colon, there is some debate about how serious this is however.

My advice for people who are new to fasting or are unsure about it try a one day Water Fast or a three to five day juice fast or Master Cleanse. If all goes well, then spend the next two weeks on a vegetarian diet, ideally raw, with one or two fasting days each week. This will allow the body to detox at a slower rate and make fasting much easier. During this time it is essential to stop using any thing with caffeine and refined foods. Caffeine, white Sugar and Mono-Sodium-Glutamat (Natrium Glutamat) withdrawal during fasting can cause severe headaches, upset stomach, and cravings the will make any fast very difficult to continue. This period will also be a time to do a Liver Flush or cleanse the colon if necessary.

With all this said fasting is very safe when done correctly and with common sense. Do not go out for long fasts the first few times you try. If you do begin to feel too ill to function, go back to the cleansing vegetarian diet.
