It is a good idea to set parameters, such as no drinking on weekdays. As it is alchol is not helpful to your body and mind. Perhaps he needs to see how he is damaging his body with beer. Perhaps you should start with one day a week and weekends is ok to drink.

You need to let him know that food comes before drinking alchol. If you have limited amount of money spend it on food. My mom always told us that when you are on your own and do not have enough money to live, make sure you eat first and then spend it on other things.

Also you definitely need to tell him that you are totally uncomfortable making love to him in his drunk state. I know many people who do not drink when they are going to make love because simply they do not feel that they are 100% consious about love making.
