Re: What is an SBO?
Is there really a scientific definition of "Soil Based Organisms" or are you just using logic to determine if an organism comes from the soil?
From what I've heard, Bacillus Subtilis was first discovered in camel feces and was used against dysentery.
All organisms to some point must be in a soil somewhere.
Maybe we shouldn't go by name but by where the specific strain was grown. A few generations of the most "ferocious" bacteria grown in normal laboratory conditions will lose its ferociousness.
Quoting Vinny Pinto: "The individual microorganisms found in EM are all fully natural (indeed, EM is certified as an organic farming product), are commonly found worldwide in soil and ponds and even on many leaves and other surfaces in nature and are commonly found almost everywhere in nature (but not often in the quantity, balance or relationship as found in EM."
This would include Lactobacillus. Leafy veggies are usually covered with lactobacillus plantarum, so it would make sense that the bacterias originate from the soil.
EM was developped for agriculture use, so it's ferociousness was certainly of prime importance.
