Re: Do you remember....
You make a good point.
I also think that author makes a good point.
It would seem like the islamic leaders and citizens IN AMERICA would be publicly and loudly condemning that brand of islam. I mean, mainstream Christians are pretty quick to disclaim David Koresh and Waco... or Scientology, for example. If a group's thoughts and actions don't represent you, yet they are associated with you (for whatever reason), then the natural thing to do is to try to make it as clear and obvious as possible that you are not the same thing.
I think that the muslim leaders in Malaysia and Singapore did a good job around 9/11 in making it clear that they did not approve and did not align themselves with that sort of islam. In Singapore I know the islamic community leaders made a point that they sided with and supported the USA on the attacks.
We definitely don't want racial profiling to go to an extreme, or start herding people into camps. But hey, if someone is getting on a PLANE and they even THINK he looks suspicious they sure, check him out 2, 3, even 5 times. If he's a good, harmless guy then yes, it's not fair and yes, it's a hassle, but he should be ready and willing to go through those extra hurdles. Better safe than sorry.
