qck one about water...for anyone who can help!

i live in england and have been using a brita water filter, fairly inexpensive and esay to use...just fill the compartment up and watch if get filtered through to the bottom compartment, however im fairly dubious about how efficeint these filters actually are and have read they only take out chlorine and some pesticiedes...how much am i looking at for a cheap distiller? it would only be for me not my mum and dad so one big enough for 1 person! also alot of people suggest that evian is the best mineral water...however a brand in england called highland springs (from scotland) has a PH of 7.8 compared to evians 7.2 does this mean its alkalising me more / better? bottled water in england is about 80p (80 cent in american terms)for a 1.5 litre bottle, how much is that in comparison to america?
