Detoxing Carbon Monoxide

Hi MH, I read carbon monoxide poisoning, from automobile exhaust,
is the number 1 killer in the USA and the number 1 cause of premature death, slow poisoning, in the USA.
I wondered, aside from the obvious of not living next to freeways. How do you detox carbon monoxide gas from the brain, blood, cells, tissues and body?
Some say activated charcoal absorbs gas/fume poison from carbon monoxide. I read setting a bowl of activated charcoal in a room will draw in the carbon monoxide gasses and neutralize them.

Advanced environmentally concerned city planners in some countries run the car traffic underground thru tunnels in the cities so the carbon monoxide exhaust/fumes/gas stays underground and does not blow into peoples faces from car exhaust pipes.

Are there any specific ways to detox carbon monoxide gas and/or damage from the system?
