haunted farm house
We moved into a very old, dilapidated fixer upper farm house with a long driveway out in the country when i was 12 years old or so (1979). It must have been at least 150 years old. My parents did a lot of restoration work and my sister who is 3 yrs older than me and myself helped out here and there. Two things that really stuck in my mind about the place when we first moved in were that there was no insulation in the place. They used old shoes and clothing, etc. (the shoes looked ancient!) Also, hanging in the attic were very old mink coats, which, thinking about it now, I find strange that anyone would leave expensive fur coats behind.
The house was pretty nice after it was all fixed up.
Now, 3 things happened in this house while we lived in it that scared me quite a bit.
1. My sister had this habit of closing the shades before it got dark out. It scared her to walk into the room at night and having to close the shades because someone might be standing outside the window (even though our rooms were on the 2nd floor LOL) One night my sister and I went upstairs to go to bed and my sister just walked into her room and froze. She called me into the room and pointed to the windows. Here her shades weren't closed. They were both perfectly closed only half-way. This happened more than once so it wasn't just a coincidence, believe me.
2. I had a friend over for a sleep-over one night and she started dreaming. My mom was downstairs and heard some chattering upstairs so she walked up the steps to see what we were up to and why we weren't alsleep yet. She said that she heard my friend talking and mumbling while she was walking upstairs, but once she got to the top of the stairs, my friend stopped. This went on for at least an hour. My mom even tried just standing around the corner for a while just to see if my friend would start dreaming again and she didn't.
3. This was the worst and strangest thing that happened. My parents were both working 2nd shift so my sister and I were home alone for the night. I was downstairs watching TV while my sister was upstairs listening to music on her headphones. All of the sudden I heard a very light tapping on the back door. It startled me, but I walked to the door to check it out anyway. I peeked through the window and saw nothing so I sat back down to watch TV. About 5 minutes later, I heard tapping again but this time it was louder and it scared me quite a bit so I went upstairs and told my sister about it. She came downstairs with me to check it out and said I was just imagining things. Of course, I told her I wasn't but she went back upstairs anyway. I watched TV again......... About 5 or so minutes later, I heard this electric saw type sound coming from the downstairs bathroom. This time our toy poodle that we had heard it and started barking in the direction of the bathroom and where the noise came from. I was SOOOOOOO F'ing scared that I shot out of my chair and bolted up to my sisters room in a panicked frenzy and told her. She saw the fear in my eyes and she became scared too. We ended up calling my mother, who was working at her job (about 45 minutes away from home). My mom called our grandfather who lived 30 minutes away. My grandfather called the police. While my sister was on the phone with our grandfather we BOTH heard the outside basement entry door open. It was an unmistakeable squelching sound and we knew it well since my dad would go down there often to get his tools, etc. while we were in the living room watching TV. So I ran to the window that was located right above the basement door and peeked out through the curtain to see if i could see anyone exiting from the basement or walking in the yard........noone was there. About 10 minutes later, the police came and checked the place out. They didn't find anything at all. Not even footprints in the fresh snowfall that had fallen that day.
To this day, we still believe that house was haunted. Too many strange things happened while we were living there.
Blessings,
Adie
