Re: Opinions Change
If you ever said one thing that was actually true I think I'd just faint.
LOL me too!
Firstly, The abolitionist movement was started in this country by Mennonites and Quakers. The mainstream Christian denominations did not join in the hue and the cry against slavery till about the 19th century.
To say that the Bible promotes slavery is idiotic.
Slavery was sanctioned in the Bible, authorized, regulated, and recognized from Genesis to Revelation.... Slavery existed then in the earliest ages, and among the chosen people of God; and in Revelation we are told that it shall exist till the end of time shall come. You find it in the Old and New Testament--in the prophecies, psalms, and the epistles of Paul; you find it recognized, sanctioned everywhere
there is not one verse in the Bible inhibiting slavery, but many regulating it. It is not then, we conclude, immoral.
Slavery has been a part of nearly every country's history. France, Russia, Mexico, Spain, Turkey, Egypt, England, the U.S -- and many many more.
So? I didn't say it was just a Christian thing. I am saying it is morally correct by the bible.
