It's a travesty
Yes, chalk one up for the Christian right. I'd never move there, but I have visited there, and it is beautiful. I think I read that there will be an appeal, of course. But I'm sure the country is watching this very carefully.
Like any test tube, it will be interesting to see the stories of women who will have to turn to illegal abortion, and there will be stories. No matter what they think, women, throughout all the years, back as far as history goes, have tried many methods to perform abortion. Perhaps they can make it illegal, but they will never make people stop seeking them out.
I remember talking to an old Navajo woman, who said that women in her tribe used to go find a special mushroom. Taking the mushroom would almost kill the mother too, but that was how strong the urge to end the pregnancy was. So, mother poisons herself to poison her fetus. Man, that's just so wrong.
I've heard of women drinking motor oil, gasoline, clorox, and then penetrating themselves with a variety of things. Not to be gross, but that's what will happen should abortion be illegal. It won't be pretty. Not to mention many unscrupulous people, not medically trained, who will be offering these procedures.
At least, for now, the women in SD who can afford a plane, train or bus ticket will find help. All the poor women, they are on their own!
They keep talking about murder, and the cries of the unborn, yet they know not what they do!
