Re: Gianna Jessen - Aborted AND alive to tell her story

And you need to read what I wrote.

I am not going to repeat everything I said in my previous post except to ask if you read her book or know what were the serious reason(s) either parent had for the abortion? I was going along with your assmption that the abortion caused the lack of oxygen. But how do you know the fetus didn't suffer a lack of oxygen before the abortion? Was there a test for cerebral palsy?

That there are parents on waiting lists for children and this proves your point that there are more than enough people for who ever wants to be adopted?? You haven't done much reading on this subject. The reason you remember this fact, taken out of context, is to be able to twist it into a new meaning. And put it in service of your value--"proving abortion is bad." A lot of people on those lists are waiting for a certain kind of eye color or similar request/requirement, and they think they are serious contenders as parents. Just looking at the number of people on a list, as you did, is superficial, quality counts also. That's why there are many more children than available parents. Let-the-children-be-put-up-for-adoption is not a good solution. If it were just a matter of matching up children's names with prospective parents, than why do we pay taxes for various child welfare and adoption agencies (some are private)with their requisite requirements? You choose to keep this fact out of your picture because that would tarnish the image of adoption you want to sell. You want to paint the picture that adoption is wonderfully available, and although some few problems may be encountered, they are minor.

I did not say having an abortion does not have consequences. I said not having an abortion (your solution) has far, far worse consequences. As for depression, that is a big topic. Not one answered or explained in two sentences as you chose to do. A person can be depressed or feel guilty for other things occurring concurrently as the pregnancy. If the pregnancy is terminated, these other things (others' actions or events) continue to occur and plague the person, hence the Depression continues. Just because two events occur together (correlation), does not mean one caused the other. They both could have been caused by another or third event. Feeling a sense of sadness at a loss is natural, but not for a life-time as you would have it painted. Not everyone feels sad about an abortion.

As for feeling regret at a baby ultrasound image later, is it true of everyone? Or is it what you are trying to make it out to be in your interpretation? It is a great over generalization to make the assumption that every woman or most women (or men) feel regret or get depressed at an ultrasound of a baby years later. You do not know what associations are being made to that ultrasound unless you are making claims to being able to read everyone's thoughts. It could remind them of something in the present context, rather than remind them of an abortion a year or years ago.
