there is no rule as to how long you should fast. generally speaking i always tell peple to really tune into their body and listen. the thing is that a fast is absolutely the best way to tune into your body. you will really begin to listen to it during a fast in a way that you never have.
your body will know when it is time to quit. and its different than the nagging, "i wanna cheeseburger comeon, i want some oreos, comeon" thing that your body might do. its deeper, more like a soul knowing of "okay you did everything you needed to do for this fast, now its time to eat again" then you eat.
okay so i am not like everyone else. some set a specific time, 5 days or 10 days or whatever and then stick to it no matter what. that method really works well for some poeple maybe you are one of them. but for me i just listne to my body. generally speaking the longer the fast the more good it will do. here is a fantastic article in dazzles blog about fasting, it is an interview with

Water Fast is the way to go. if you are new to fasting, then a juice fast is an easier way to do it, then a
Water Fast may be in order.
