lacto-ovo vegetarianism
When I was younger, I was a pretty strict vegetarian; then I stopped. Now I think it makes sense to move in that direction again but I'm not comfortable with the purely vegan diet, especially feeding it to my child. To clarify this, not because I think a vegan diet could ever be less healthy than the standard American, but because I'm afraid I won't pay close enough attention to make it totally healthy right now if the diet is complicated to get right.
The only 'organic', hormone-free or free range animal product I've found around here so far are eggs. Can we avoid b12 deficiency just by eating eggs? I'm very milk intolerant so the "lacto" part is probably out for me.
I just ordered a vegan cookbook from Amazon, "Vegan Planet." It'll be nice to work off that, I think, but I plan to include eggs also. Any comments? Or suggested reading?
