Re: 26 mile marathon while fasting

LW, running the big 26.2 is quite mental too...
TIPS
1) on your regular training runs, repeat over and over to yourself, "i can run forever" ...sounds silly maybe, but it'll prepare your mind. (seems similar to fasting, eh?)
2) DURING the marathon, if you need a break, sometimes run backwards to give the forward running muscles a break...i did this several times and it helped...
3) It starts out like any other run...on the day of your marathon, you'll have the jitters...again, it starts out like any other run...try not to think of how far you have to run, just take a mile at a time...try not to think in terms of "i've got x number of miles to go" . Just enjoy the process and think of other things. (again, lot like a fast, eh?)
4) It really does help to run along WITH someone, someone to chat with, helps the miles pass.
(when i ran my first one, i started talking with a lady runner...before we knew it, we were at the 20 mile mark and were good friends...we both thought, where'd THAT 20 miles go?!! niether of us had ever run that far before.) (i was young and foolish, i'd only trained 16 miles a week for 16 weeks, but luckily HAD done a LOT of mental training, like herein mentioned)

I suspect you'll be great at this, your mental toughness at fasting will proPEL you over the 26 miles...and the last .2 miles, i guatantee you, you'll be grinning from ear to ear and you'll have quite a HIGH for the rest of the day...oh, yeah,
tip 5) continually PICTURE yourself crossing that finish line, during training runs and any time.
Have a great run!
