Supplementing turns off the body's production?

I spoke with a Dr recently who specializes in bio identical hormones and he mentioned that once you start taking them your body will stop making its own because it senses that you already have enough. And he said that's why you have to keep taking them. I hadn't heard that before and it somewhat alarmed me. I'd hate to start supplementing because I'm a little low, and then when I want to go off for whatever reason that my body no longer makes ANY whatsoever.

Has anyone heard anything about this?
