I checked the battery with a meter (it was fine) and the output was showing a DC voltage. I didn't have access to a scope at home so I didn't test that. I believe it was working fine.

I'm trying to understand the die off syndrome you mention. Are you saying the cold virus is thriving on other dead bacteria or viruses? What are dying and what are thriving?
