ROME, Feb 24, 2005 (United Press International via COMTEX) -- A study done in Italy says children in the United States and Canada are being vaccinated against influenza without adequate proof that it will work.
The paper published in this week issue of The Lancet says the United States and Canada have recently started vaccinating children, including those aged 6 to 24 months. They effort hopes to reduce the disease spread, admissions and visits to hospitals, deaths of elderly relatives, complications such as ear infections and pneumonia, absences from school, and parental loss of workdays and over-prescribing of
Antibiotics .
However, Tom Jefferson at Cochrane Vaccines Field in Italy and colleagues, say there is no evidence that vaccinating children can achieve these goals.
They found vaccines were effective in reducing long school absences but had little effect on other outcomes such as hospital stays and lower respiratory tract disease.
"This is an important point in the decision to immunize whole populations," said Jefferson. "Immunization of very young children is not lent support by our findings."

My opinion:
Wonder how those 6-24 month olds are going to get by to the next grade level by missing all those days of school.
So where is the real issue??? THE CHILDS HEALTH! It never gets mentioned. Guess the Pharmaceutical Industry is really hurting financially. They sure are good at the propaganda and marketing issues (BRAINWASHING)!
