I was very, very hesitant to go to a chiropractor

I gave myself a case of whiplash several years ago at a waterpark. (Klutzy me) Within a few weeks I was having jaw problems, but my doctor wasn't what you would call supportive. In the past couple of years I have gone to physical therapy, (little to no benefit), tried several rounds of muscle relaxers when it would really flare up (of course I had to go in to the doctor's office every time and still would send me away with nothing but the scrips). I tried massage therapy and it was great all over, helped me with a lot of unrelated problems, but in couple of days it would be back. I went to a couple of dentists (the only thing my doctor suggested to do) but they saw no problems.

A friend suggested going to a chiropractor. I resisted strongly. I didn't like the idea of "cracking" my body parts. But I called around a few places and actually spoke to the chiropractor himself at one spot. Told him what was going on and he was very honest in saying that some people do not get any relief for TMJ.

So I went in and he examined me. He immediately found the problem in my neck and was confident that if we got my neck worked out, the jaw would resolve itself. He gave me a mini-massage, (oh, it hurt so good) and then adjusted me. Don't get me wrong. I hated, hated, hated the feeling and sound of that big "CRACK!!!" But even though I was immediately kind of sore and stiff, I could feel the difference in my jaw. Immediately!

So I don't go as often as I should, but it still has been a very worthwhile experience. I don't know if this helps or not. I may have been "lucky" since the root of my TMJ was my neck and more easily treated. I'm only guessing. I hoped this helped some. Good luck. I know how frustrating and painful TMJ is.
