Why Are Young People Are Dying In Iraq
When the Bush administration began associating Saddam Hussein with 9-11, I became wary, as most of this administration’s questionable actions have been preceded by intense, well developed propaganda programs utilizing the Sunday talk shows, Fox and the other cable networks. The spokesmen are in lock step with little variance in their talking points. It’s hard to believe that the flacks aren’t quoting talking points documents… Word-for-word, Goebbels had nothing on Karl Rove. I am dismayed that individuals who have spent their lives earning great stature and power will line up like horn-playing seals and orate the exact same lines. But they do… caper-after-caper. They must perform so precisely, because of a promise of “great future fortune” or great power – perhaps a kingdom. Historically, they will be identified as totalitarians, Uncle Toms, buffoons and burned-out corporate executives. One can easily detect that a new operation is in the offing by watching the Sunday talk shows. At this time, 70% of Americans believe that Saddam was directly involved with 9-11. Not an ounce of proof – just repeated implications.
I and many other Americans have been straining our minds while attempting to determine why this administration so willingly sacrificed our treasure and American blood in order to depose the murderer Saddam from Iraq when we merely winked as millions were slaughtered in other locations around the world. What is it about Iraq that demands a runaway national debt, accelerated deterioration of our infrastructure, and a lower quality of life for our citizens? Forget WMD, Saddam’s vile acts (He was committing genocide with material we provided 13 years ago… talk about a slow reaction to genocide,) and a clear and present danger from Iraqi-originated terrorists. It’s all a lie – Yes, our President is a liar. This administration went into the Mid-East to protect the free flow of oil from the Islamic territories.
It’s necessary to look at our oil supply in a historical perspective:
Despite predictions that world petroleum output will peak during the first decade of the next century, oil consumption continues to grow. Globally, we are consuming half again as much oil in the late '90s as we were in the early '70s (5). Computer models predict that OPEC oil exports will exceed non-OPEC production sometime in the next decade. The last time non-OPEC oil producing countries fell behind OPEC in production was in 1973. Although that imbalance was only temporary, it triggered a world oil crisis, produced mass panic, and generated long lines gas stations worldwide. The 1970s crisis was short-lived because there were still plenty of oil and gas deposits available for commercial extraction. This time, however, there are few, if any, undiscovered oil reserves or basins large enough to have global impact. The OPEC/non-OPEC production crossover ratio during the mid-'70s represents only a small blip on the chart. After the next crossover, however, the imbalance will be permanent
The U.S. has been kicked out of Iran and Saudi Arabia. Neither government could remain in power with a strong U.S. presence. But, control of the oil flow to the insatiable U.S. industrial complex requires air, land and sea intervention within hours if oil flow is disrupted – for any reason. Our failure to diversify our energy resources (a result of petro-dollars to politicians) has created a total dependency on petroleum.
I estimate that, prior to Iraq, we spent $100 Billion per year in our defense budget in order to protect our oil supply line.
In Iraq, contracts are being let to build permanent military bases… Not Iraqi style, but U.S. style for the support of permanent duty American forces. The bases will be utilized to maintain the smooth flow of petroleum in spite of a growing threat from Islamic fundamentalism. Islamic Fundamentalists will never allow a true Democracy in Iraq because it would be lead. This pathetic theory that you can democratize (neutralize) Islam is ideological humbug. The Islamic countries base their laws on the Koran – not the constitution that the so-called “new Iraqis” have been selected to write.
As we spend billions to construct our bases and airfields, we must remember – The Ziegfried and Maginot Lines only slowed their attackers. Compromise will allow us to assure adequate petroleum flow
. Until this non-replaceable resource is depleted.
