Re: Medical Treatment now a Luxury

I am really torn on this one. In my opinion, all of the wonderful
support for life, liberty and happiness the taxpayers provide for its' citizens is abused by a small minority. My mother had a stroke
and we were forced to place her in a nursing home. Thank you Dad deceased) for RR Retirement and Medicare for bearing the brunt of
Mom's medical costs. But, all good things must end, and for weeks
I have been writing checks on Mom's account to the tune of about $150
a day. Soon, when Mom's cash resources are gone, I must apply for state medicaid, which require that she be destitute. When I apply for aid I must prove that she has no possesions of value and prove she has her home listed with a certified realtor at a fair value - but, that's fair... Mom will pay her own way. No estate for the kin to squander, but that's fair, too! I have an aunt and uncle who are in their nineties. They, deservedly, became millionaires during their lives. Years ago, on the advice of lawyers and accountants, they turned themselves into paupers. My cousins, both professionals, were gifted and trusted my aunt and uncle's total estate. When my aunt was placed in a nursing home two years ago, it cost the estate nothing - there was no estate. The taxpayers are writting the checks. What's wrong with this picture?
