Toxin substances that enter into the body or form in the body can lead to cell damage which can result in diseases, premature ageing and cellulite formation. Toxin accumulation can occur due to chemicals, poor circulation, poor digestion, lack of nutrients and stress.

Formation of cellulite is not only restricted to those that are overweight, it can occur in everyone whether they are slim or large in body size. Cellulite specifically occurs when circulation decreases, preventing the elimination of some fluids and toxins via the lymphatic system (the toxin removal system of the body). The excess fluids and toxins can accumulate in the fat tissues causing them to swell and cause uneven skin texture. The most observed cellulite condition results from fat in the uppermost layers of the skin projecting into the dermis and causing bumps, dimples, and pitting.

As the body ages, it loses elasticity due to the weakening of collagen tissue. This weakening is also responsible for the formation of cellulite. Cellulite formation is usually concentrated in the areas where circulation can be poor such as the thighs, buttocks, stomach and upper arms. It occurs mainly in women as their body fat composition differs from men. The accumulation of cellulite is also related to hormonal changes that occur in women as they age.

Other factors contributing to the development of cellulite are: changes in estrogen and progesterone levels, genetic factors, eating foods containing an over abundance of toxins, such as fried food, alcohol, caffeine and sugar. Also as the tone and condition of the skin declines, its ability to aid in elimination and nutrition processes of underlying tissues also declines.

The lymphatic system is responsible for mainlining the body's fluid and removing excess toxins. Lymphatic massage, upward massage in the direction of the heart - using gentle strokes, can help to move toxins toward the lymph nodes.

Heat is also a very powerful way to dislodge toxins, improve and stimulate circulation. Heat enables the skin and tissues to be cleansed and assist in rebalancing the body. One method involves the use of a steam chamber where the body is enclosed and steam is released. Specific therapeutic spa treatments can help to flush out toxins , improve circulation and reduce cellulite.

Internal harmony or balance is the key to total health. Keeping the body free of excess toxins will prevent the build up of free radicals that can lead to serious health concerns and can eliminate or prevent cellulite formation. To promote internal harmony, green tea, proper supplements, a healthy Diet consisting of raw fruits, vegetables and natural grains, drinking plenty of water and exercise, along with external skin care is a safe, natural and healthy way to care for your body.

Can stress cause cellulite?

Stress depletes the body of energy and nutrients, which in turn slows down the immune system and causes the build up of toxins. Incorporating daily deep breathing, yoga, meditation and aromatherapy can help to reduce stress and create a more balanced system.
