concern about blogs and statistics

I am not one who normally complains about new features. When the voting was introduced, I was very open-minded and willing to give it time to see how it worked out. Same with the blogs and other new features.

I do however, have some concerns about the rating system. I do not see the purpose as it once again seems like it is just a popularity contest. In my opinion, the cream will rise to the top. If the information is good, then people will be drawn to it. But when a system is put in to place that can be so easily manipulated, all of a sudden the scales are tipped. If someone wants to add hits to their blog to make it look popular, there are ways to do that.

I do not see the point in having the stats viewable to the public. I do not think the benefit outweighs the negative aspects. What is the point in showing numbers if they aren't even real?

Just my humble opinion.
