I've been reading all the messages regarding the cholesterol issue and the Atkins diet and couldn't resist weighing in with an opinion or two. I've been on and off and on Atkins, since the 1970s. When in my 20s losing weight on this diet was a snap, now that I'm nudging 60 the snaps have broken. My cholesterol has risen and I'm in hoverpark at around 225, which incidentally is also my weight. I'm not sweating bullets over it cuz everything has gone up. I no longer look at Atkins as a diet but as a maintenance method. Since I have been close to 300 pounds I see 225 as great progress. I say all this to say that not everyone can be successful on Atkins not even someone who's been on Atkins for 30 years, like me. I'd like to be 150. Shoot I'd like to be 200 but I'm happy not to be 300. If you can lose weight on a low fat diet then go for it, but don't critize those of us who like eating the Atkins way. And all you Atkins folk, leave the low-fatters alone, too.
