Why 4am? sun and earth orbit
For real change a support structure for holding the space until one becomes strong enough to practice on one's own- and really group Sadhana is a blessing since you can tap into the others energy- for support and growth
The psyche and it's infinite connection to the other planes is available the hours that the sun holds a 60 degree angle to earth. Even if you live in the great white north and your darkness is prevalent in winter:
Question: what if you live in a place that 4am is NOT within 2 hours to sunrise?
I used to live Fairbanks, Alaska. On the shortest day of the year
the sun rose at 10:30 am and set at 1:30 (AND and the temp hovers around
-45 to -56 degrees during a cold snap). The different guidelines we
have about the Amrit Vela beginning "2 1/2 hours before sunrise" or
"during the last quarter of the night" just can't apply no matter how
much we wish they did.
***The part about the angle between sun and earth
being 60 degrees at the right time would have to apply in this case and
that happens at 4 am and again at 4 pm. The energy of the psyche is
tuned to this cycle even though the ratio between daylight and night are
completely whacked. ****
I remember the energy of the darkness getting very
intense around mid November and not letting up one bit until mid-January
with the tangible sense that the sunlight was really on the return. It's
a great opportunity to tune in real deep to your inner space and
interrupt the old patterns. It is best to keep your self moving and deal
with things on one's own terms. I used to hunt or ski alot in order to
keep myself "on point" and relating to the elements directly. It's kinda
homeopathic in it's over all effect.
Side point: this sunlight thing is so relative. Many years ago I
remember driving south from Fairbanks and arriving in Seattle in late
Feb. and "drinking" the sunlight like a man who hadn't had a drop of
water in a week. It was like an intravenous injection to me.
Dharam
If one is searching for change and that is in any area of life-health, diet, exercise, love life, money, place and space in this world...all these things take a shift in persepctive..and sadhnana -early morning spiritual practice will give you the guts and the sight to make change.
If one thinks good thought- this is wonderful, but does not address the rigors of real change. And most left on our own will not make much progress this way since there is no form with which to contain our practice....
People who are experiencing health problems, and are in the grips of deprssion will need more much more...In so much as we are what we think, and thinking good thoughts is always good, real change is not about reading a book!
Anyone who has read a book, me included, has not made substantial gains unless we execute the books suggesstions- whne we are weak it is hard to be disciplined enough to hold that space.
A practice allows one to hold the space and others with more energetic powers will support you while you grow spiiritually and physically.
This is to help- not to disagree with the powers that be! Some people will listen to whom they know over what they can know
