The Wright Brothers' Flyer 3 was called by them, the 'first practical flyer'. It had 50% more hp, and much greater stability. They could reliably control it for 25 miles, or 35 minutes until the tank ran dry, and 2 could fly, not 1, as before. Given its greater stability, they could do figure 8's and circles, with no real danger, and flew over 100 flights over 50 feet in altitude!!
In 1905 their patent was rewarded, and the surge of development began as all the other flight investigators had achieved a developmental flat line. In 1906, because of the patents distribution, and study, great leaps in control and power development began, and by 1909, the area of flight was unrecognizable in comparison to the Wright Brothers' first actual controlled flight at Kitty Hawk, NC, in Dec., 1903.
