McPromise to get the fat out fails
In the NEWS today - Trans Fats -
McDonalds fast food restaurants made a promise two years ago to eliminate the bad oils they fry our food in.
Hydroginated oils , with their terrible 'trans fats', are the culprit, highly suspected of causing the "clogging of our arteries" epidemic [for which several drugs and more than a few other proceedures and those 'stents' have been developed to provide temporary relief for].
These fats are what produces the best fries at the cheapest cost. "Adequate replacement oils have not been found" said Mcdonalds.
They are a "processed" and designed oil, as hydrogination is not natural. Hydroginated oils are considered so bad that respected food scientists say that they "have no place in our food supply".
These oils, the trans fats in them, clog arteries, they raise the bad cholsterol and lower the good. [LDL, HDl]. This is not disputed, its just ignored.
Many countries have banned them. [People lived!]
There is one issue in this that did not make the news - Acrylimide. I remembered that by heart. Its an important one, and may be responsible for bowel cancers. many cancers...
Acryimide forms when oil is heated and when certain things are combined with the heated oils, like potatoes [starches]. Acrylimide is a known carcinogen, but has not been officially linked to cooking oils by the FDA or Canadain authorites. that, in the face of many food scientists coming out years ago and warning about it. 1990 saw a paper released pointing out that Acrylimide is in most cooking oils heated to a certain temp [220F I think, frying temperature for sure].
So the cooking oils used in fast foods is not safe, they admit it and would make changes if they could do it without raising prices, but they can't, it would add to the cost. So your cheaper french fries made in the competitive fast food business will continue to have the Acrylimide and Trans Fats. Stupid, as we would pay the extra 5 cents ber bag of fries or for the chicken cooked in the fryers, but it would only be seen as "they are not as cheap as the other place". I guess...
OR - maybe you can think of a reason they dont want to start using healthier oils - could it be that someone put pressure on
them to continue with the bad oils so we would continue to get heart disease and need those stents to hold our arteries open?
Well, best to stay away from fast foods, cant say you have not heard the warnings.
