That's where I would say the Democrats used to be noble (what you call a safety net) While we might disagree some on what we consider a "safety net", I've stated this on this forum before, That if you were to have a billion dollars of tax money to spend, would you do it the Republican way of giving it all to Enron (and call it trickle down economics), or the old Democratic way of giving 100,000 poor people $10,000.00 each.(Republicans call this re-distribution of wealth) I certainly believe the Old Democratic way would be the better route to take.
