Many thanks to Gregg LaRocque for sending this heart
felt testimonial by Laurie McCamon.

I hope my testimonial helps to understand how vital
these nutrients are to people who seek good health.

I was diagnosed with Lupus in Jan. 97 at age 33. My
symptoms were butterfly rash, hair loss, dry mouth and
throat, Arthritis in hips knees and ankles, bursitis in
both shoulders (unable to lift right arm), fatigue
(sleeping 14 to 16 hrs, a day nap morning, afternoon
and bed by 8:30ish), and what I call brain fog (had a
hard time grasping what people were saying, poor
memory, very irritable, slurred speech)

I was disintegrating right before my two children (they
were 3 and 6 then) and my husband, with no assurance
from the medical community that it would improve.

After I was diagnosed, I cried for days, knowing that
the drugs that they give for autoimmune conditions may
cover the symptoms, but destroy the body with the many
side-effects. I decided I would go it without drugs,
but would take a natural route.

However, I was very unsuccessful with the herbal
therapy I was taking. For 4 months I swallowed 50 -60
capsules/day, and brewed teas, but I continued to get
worse, to the point of falling asleep driving our 3
year old son to his library story time at 10 a.m.!

I now knew that I needed some serious help. On my face
in my living room(couldn't walk anymore) I cried out to
God to either help me, or take me because I couldn't
care for my family anymore. This was the lowest point
in my life.

That very week, my chiropractor, Dr. Chris McLean, told
me about glyconutrient products. He explained how
unlike drugs that cover the symptoms, the glyconutrient
products support our bodies nutritionally, so that the
body can FIX itself! Sounded like an answer to me, so I
started taking glyconutrients, phytonutrients and the
dioscorea product.

These products supported my body to calm down the
immune system, regulate my hormones and support
regeneration of good body tissue.

Within 2 months I was feeling much better, fatigue was
much less, Arthritis pain gone, hair growing in.

Within 6 months I was symptom free, my MD said WOW when
I walked into his office.

It has now been 4 and 1/2 years and I'm still blessed
with excellent health.

My heart truly goes out to all who are tormented by
diseases like these.

Many blessings to you as you bring health and healing
to the world.

Wait there is more! You must read the story from ABC
News.

Important news on Lupus!

But first, you must know that it is starting to become
common knowledge that many of the autoimmune diseases
are the result of glycoprotein deficiencies and
cellular miscommunication. What do the eight essential
monosaccharides have to do with this process?

In Harper's Biochemistry, a textbook published in 1996,
by Murray, et al, identifies eight monosaccharides
commonly found in human glycoproteins which are known
to be important to the healthy functioning of the human
body. Coming from a universe of approximately 200
monosaccharides found in nature, the essential eight
saccharides are galactose, glucose, mannose, N-
acetylneuraminic acid, fucose, N-acetylgalactosamine,
N-acetylglucosamine, and xylose. If any of the required
saccharide building blocks for glycoproteins are
missing, or are in short supply, glycoprotein letters
are not formed, or are altered, with the resultant shut
down or faulty cellular communication. The body
experiences these garbled messages as various symptoms,
or as degenerative or disease conditions. In the
article below you will read about glycan molecules,
which are carbohydrates that contain a large number of
saccharide groups (e.g., starch). There is a particular
enzyme called alpha-mannosidase II which helps form
cell-surface carbohydrate structures called N-glycans,
which enable the immune system to distinguish self from
non-self.

These comments make the following story from ABC all
the more important!

Lupus-gene link identified
Thursday, 1 February 2001

The mystery of what causes the fatal autoimmune disease
lupus has been partially solved by the identification
of a possible genetic link.

Researchers at the University of California, San Diego
School of Medicine (UCSD) uncovered the possible
genetic link to lupus (also called systemic lupus
erythematosis). They report in Proceedings of the
National Academy of Sciences that a gene has been
identified in mice which, if absent, causes symptoms
remarkably similar to human lupus.

Lupus is an incurable and potentially fatal multi-organ
disease that turns victims' immune systems against
them. The disease affects about one in 200 people, 90
per cent of them women, causing damage to kidneys,
liver, brain, heart, spleen, joints, and lungs.

The UCSD investigators found that mice with a genetic
mutation in an enzyme called alpha-mannosidase II
develop lupus-type symptoms. This enzyme helps form
cell-surface carbohydrate structures called N-glycans,
which enable the immune system to distinguish self from
non-self.

In people with lupus and other autoimmune diseases such
as arthritis, the body's white blood cells, instead of
destroying invading bacteria and viruses, attack normal
organs. While these cells appear normal in lupus
sufferers, the victims' tissues and organs still appear
ravaged by an attacking immune system.

Researchers had previously noticed that changes in N-
glycans could lead to autoimmune disease. After
pinpointing a gene, which produces an enzyme that
starts the glycan formation pathway, researchers bred
mice without this gene. They found the gene-deficient
mice had much lower levels of N-glycans, and abnormally
shaped N-glycans molecules. At the same time, these
mice had high levels of antibodies, kidney inflammation
and other tissue damage.

Senior author of the study, Professor Jamey Marth said:
this is an entirely new manner by which autoimmune
disease can occur, by a gene controlling carbohydrate
formation. These findings provide new insights into
understanding autoimmune disease and suggest new
diagnostic tests for possible causes of human SLE
(lupus).

An accurate method for detecting lupus would be
significant, as its vast suite of symptoms often makes
the disease difficult to diagnose accurately.

Published Books, Articles, and Reviews

1996 Harper's Biochemistry 24th Edition, a definitive reference for first year medical students, is the initial publication of the eight known saccharides in human cell structures. It lists and details the importance of these newly discovered components for healthy cell structures, processes, functions, and disease prevention.

Sugars That Heal: The New Healing Science of Glyconutrients
As founder of the Glyconutrients Research Foundation and author of Sugars that Heal, Dr. Emil Mondoa explains, these eight sugars, known as saccharides, are the basis of multicellular intelligence- the ability of cells to communicate, cohere, and work together to keep you healthy and balanced. The book also details how sugars were regarded as physiological useless matter.

"When I was a medical student twenty years ago I was taught that the unusual sugars found on the coats of cells were mostly a nuisance that prevented scientists from studying the precious proteins entombed within them."

The authors detail technological developments they believe will "dramatically affect the way we live and work." the spotlight is on sugars in "10 Emerging Technologies that Will Change the World," which can be found in the February 2003 issue of Technology Review. Sugars are one of the three technologies predicted to have a significant impact on human health.
