Re: Are there any substitutes for drinking epsom salts?

Well, Sharon, I'm not a doctor or anything, but I have flushed about 12 times, so I have a little experience.

However, up until now, I've never tried using a substitute for the Epsom Salts . I have read that you could use magnesium oxide (with lemon juice) or magnesium citrate. I am going to try the magnesium citrate this evening when I flush. I will let you know how it goes...

According to Kirkman's website
http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/products/minerals/magnesium/Mag_Citrate_P_8_Spec23...

different forms of magnesium do have differing effects upon the GI tract, so that may help determine your choice of which kind to use. ( Epsom Salt is magnesium sulfate)

Oxide Tends to firm stools
Glycinate A very gentle form, easier on the system
Citrate Tends to loosen stools
Sulfate Tends to loosen stools
Chloride Tends to loosen stool

I do hope this information is helpful.
