I agree with what you are saying, they may try...BUT, even the most carefully laid plans fail. There are way too many people with their lives deeply entrenched in the internet. People will fight for what's really important to them!! There would be revolt, the net affects everyone's life and it's not that easy to take something away that everyone uses regularly. You can not go against the whole population without revolt, especially something that organizes and communicate like the computer. I just don't see it happening. It would not only be argued to contravene freedom or the press but also freedom of assembly. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it until I seen it happen.
