Linus von Pauling who has been largely discredited

Many of his theories have been totally disproven. The fact that he is a (double)Nobel Prize winner (in Chemistry) doesn't mean anything. Experts? Pah!

Why do you believe one expert and not another? Because it suits your beliefs. In other words you do not recognize the expertise as such. In which case you cannot really represent them as experts, and their scientific crecentials are meaningless (unless you take the word of other similarly qualified experts).
