My family is aware that my brother molested me

I understand the guilt you feel when you say others suffered because you didn't speak up. I feel the same way sometimes too, but then again, when I did speak up, I lost my family, and they embraced my molester who was my brother. You never know how people are going to handle this kind of revelation.

My family is aware that my brother molested me, a cousin, and his sister in law, but they don't believe it, and feel each of us did something to make him act this way. Our fault? Not at all, and now I don't deal with my family and I don't feel I have lost anything but poisoned people. They are ashamed to have anyone know they have such a problem in the family and therefore won't admit it.

I don't feel bad for my brother at all. I tell EVERYONE I know about him, including his adult children. I have no shame over what happened anymore, once I realized I allowed him to victimize me by keeping quiet. Once I told others, then the stories came out about other incidents, and I know there are more based on some of the questions I have been asked, or comments that people "had heard about him".

The trouble is that we don't tell soon enough because we don't know how our story will be received by others, or because we try to protect the people who love our molesters, thinking they don't know.

Don't feel guilty. Tell your story when ever you can and you will help others to deal with their secrets too.
