Re: What is SARS?

Hi,

SARS is like pneumonia.

The primary symptoms of SARS are: high fever (greater than 38° Celsius or 100.5° Fahrenheit), dry cough, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. Changes in chest X-rays indicative of pneumonia also occur. SARS might have secondary symptoms associated with it, including headache, confusion, uneasiness, muscular stiffness, loss of appetite, rash, and diarrhea, but these probably vary from patient to patient.

The disease seems to have "originated" in China in late fall, 2002. How it started, and what causes it, and how it is spread, are the subject of much debate at the moment. At least one virus, and possibly a pair or group of viruses, is/are the direct, immediate cause of the disease.

You can read more about it by going to your favorite web search engine and entering "Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome".
