Canada vs the US?
Many Canadians dislike Americans because some are arrogant and brag that they are so superior...
Believe me, Canada would do just fine with out the Goliath of the US next door. Canadians are a resilient and clever bunch, and they have a wonderful culture (which unfortunately is overshadowed and always has to smuggle against the behemoth to the south)
I have lived in both the US and Canada, and both places have their good and bad points.
As a libertarian, who believes passionately in the US constitution, in much smaller government and much more personal freedom, neither place is my ideal. In fact, I tend to agree with the idea that government rightly exists only to defend individual liberty and property, not to redistribute wealth, establish moral or religious codes of personal behavior, or act as an advocate for any individual or group of individuals. I believe that government should be limited to only those functions that enable people to live in peace with one another, and that there are certain areas of individual liberty that should be off-limits to government interference, majority vote or not. For in a society where every aspect of life is ultimately subject to a majority vote, there can be no such things as absolute liberties - only privileges subject to the whims of others. (dream on eh???)
In the US we have a choice between the Democrats (the socialists) and the Republicans (the fascists). I don't care for either party, however the gross incompetence, total unaccountability, abject police state secrecy, loss of freedoms, trashing of the constitution and rape of the American middle class by the war criminals and corporately driven 'crooks and liars in Washington' (Socialist Kerry got THAT right) makes me long for a regime change here in the US. Kerry ain't no prize chicken, but I will gladly take a chance on him over the deeply stupid and highly manipulated president we have now...
