Re: Voting Machines
You would think that geeks, being the technojunkies we are, would be thrilled over electronic voting. Let me tell you - we're NOT. On many of the tech and security lists, the problems, insecurities, and opportunites for fraud have been discussed in very fine detail and left most of us very, very disturbed and dismayed at the implementations (and the subsequent implications.) The lack of any *true* form of oversight or ability for 3rd party verification is horrible. (In my mind, criminal, but I digress.)
I know many, Many, MANY techs, geeks, and "early adopters" who flat out refuse to use these "wonderful" and "innovative" electronic menaces. Most will be INSISTING on casting an alternate form ballot or will be absentee voting. Include me in that, I don't trust those machines (or the friendly folks pushing them) as far as I could throw them backwards.
BTW, these monstrosities are one of the very few issues I've ever seen usually politically polarized people agree on. Greens, Libertarians, Democrats, Republicans, you name it.
Now, if the folks who normally drool all over new technology feel this way, that should tell you something, eh?
