Does anyone know what a RED TONGUE means?

I went to an acupunturist and he looked at my tongue and said have you been drinking coffee. I have never drank coffee. He didn't say why but I think it is because my tongue looks red. What does that mean? I have Type 1 diabetes, low thyroid, and mild kidney.
