Black ointment smells like a campfire. It is the pine tar in it. I scrape it out with the back of my fingernail. Don't scrape it under your fingernail, it takes awhile to get out. Scrape it out. It will soften up, then apply it, gently to the area.
Since you have cracked, bleeding skin, focus on the Complete Tissue Oinment first, then work towards the Black Ointment as a drawing ointment for tumors.
