Re: Rapid Weight Loss and Gall Bladder Problems
I wanted to comment about the relationship between rapid weight loss and gall bladder problems. I was going to have the Gastric Bypass weight loss surgery (RNY), and the doctors (GP and surgeon) both told me to expect gall bladder problems as a result of the rapid weight loss and low fat diet. In fact, if there are any signs of
Gallstones on your pre-op scans, most surgeons insist on removing your gallbladder at the same time!
This was one of my many concerns with the surgery (although my surgeon was not going to remove my GB no matter what my scan showed). They routinely prescribe Actigall (sp?) to help prevent problems with those who keep their GB.
Ultimately, I decided to keep my digestive system intact, and have so far lost 39
pounds on my own. (61 more to go). But there is definitely a correlation between the rapid weight loss/low fat diet and gallbladder problems.
