can the gall stones measured correctly by ultrasound

I had 2-3 stones of 8mm size. Recently ultrasound has shown one stone of 11 mm. Is it correct or sometime they are stacked one over another that is why they show increased size. Or are they growing bigger ? Any information/ideas.
