Re: kosher diet

Sure, I am a believer in Jesus as Messiah, the Son of God, but he was born a son of David, and is of the tribe of Judah (which is now called 'Jew', but I do not like that term). Jesus kept the law. For some reasons, Christians believe that they are born-again in Messiah, with His Spirit indwelling them, but they can be 'lawless'.

The Biblical feasts set forth templates, patterns, types and shadows that are very profound....such as the Feast of Shavuot (or Pentecost in the New Testament) is when the law was given to Moses at Sinai. The same Biblical Feast was being observed in the account in Acts Chapter 2, which Shavuot in Hebrew is the equivalent word to Pentecost in Greek. So, the early believers in Jesus as Messiah and Lord were gathered there in observance of that Biblical Feast and the Holy Spirit was poured out and they began to speak in tongues and cloven tongues of fire rested upon their heads. It was at that time that their hearts were circumsized, and the LAW that was formerly written on tablets of stone....was written on their hearts as was prophesied in the O.T. (like Jeremiah).

So,,,,all that to say that "If people believe they are born-again in Messiah, and He is the Son of God and mediator between God and man, reconciling man to God, and if the meaning of Pentecost is the law written on their hearts......then why would they continue to act LAW-less?"

I know that's a long way around to get to the answer, but it's the only way I could think to explain what I believe and why I keep a kosher diet as I do. Besides, eating swine and such things is not healthy by anyone's estimation!! Too many parasites, ughhh! It's not the other white meat. But I don't eat other things...not just the swine.

Jesus said that 'it's not what goes into the mouth which defiles a man, but what comes out of the mouth--which proceeds from the heart.' In my way of thinking, a person could keep a kosher diet and still be defiled and unclean. But, it's a good diet for man, and certain foods are very unclean and not fitting for the temple of our body.

While I'm not legalistic, I see great beauty and value in following what has been commanded (just as you have beautifully written earlier in this thread). It is not a burden, but the law is a great boundary for our benefit. Sometimes I used the alias - "lockedgarden" because of this verse in the Bible:

Song of Solomon 4:12
You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride; you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.

A beautiful garden often has a hedge around it. If it has a good hedge as an enclosure--maybe a serpent cannot get in!!

By kosher I do not mean that I wait for a Jewish rabbi to tell me what to eat. Rabbinical Judaism is not Biblical - it was started when the House of Judah came back from the Babylonian captivity. Nowhere in the O.T. does it say to have rabbi's, etc.!!! So, you cannot take a beef hotdog with nitrites in it and say it is a holy thing!! ;-)

Many of the Jews you see in the world today are not Torah observant, practice the occult, and many are actually Esau and not the house of Judah. Or they might have blood from that tribe, but be mixed with Esau. But that is a totally different topic...lol.

But many people who are descended from Abraham seem to have kept a similar diet from the days of old, and that is a beautiful thing. Like I said, I have worked on and off for a Muslim atty and we like the same foods! He respects the days that I take off for the Biblical feasts (not Easter or Christmas, as they are pagan), and I try to not eat at work during times of his fast!!

It works out great when people will be respectful and open!
