is it prohibited to adopt a child in islam

hello, my husband and i are infertility challenged and have been thinking baout sdoption since sperm donor is out of the question.
what rules or guidelines do we need to be aware of in this process and do you know of any muslim orphanages in Lebanon or other middle easterns countries that would welcome adoption/ permament care.
